Unveiling the Masterpieces of Indian Textile Arts: Craft Design Society's Festival

"Festival of  Indian Textiles” & “7th Walking Hand–In–Hand - Expressions of Integrity” to be held on January 3-14, 2024, in Ahmedabad, India.

The Festival of Indian Textiles, Ahmedabad, India, hosted by CDS Art Foundation under the Working Hand-In-Hand initiative, celebrates the rich living heritage of Indian textile arts and crafts, and the exceptional skills of India’s artisans.

The festival will feature talks, presentations and crafts bazaars. There will also be specially curated exhibitions of exquisite textile arts and crafts that will offer an insight into diverse handmade textiles of India.

CDS Art Foundation believes it is paramount to preserve existing textile traditions, techniques and talent. An extraordinary range of traditional textile techniques are practiced across India and some of these need patronage to flourish in their authentic expression. Awareness, appreciation and purchase of textiles created by artisans will help sustain India’s unique textile heritage, encourage ustaads, who are master artisans, to continue practising and passing down centuries-old techniques and skills. CDS Art Foundation believes in supporting artisans today so we are not in a situation in the future where we have to revive lost traditions. Well-known stores and galleries will host artisans / designers / organizations for three-day crafts bazaars during the Festival of Indian Textiles, Ahmedabad.

CDS Art Foundation aims to take beautiful, one-of-a-kind, handcrafted Indian textiles to the world stage. Since its inception in 2017, CDS Art Foundation has hosted six Walking Hand-in-Hand shows in Ahmedabad, Baroda and New Delhi. Each show features garments specially co-created by master artisans and leading fashion and textile designers from different parts of India.

The Foundation is hosting the 7th Walking Hand-in-Hand show in Ahmedabad on 5th January 2024. The theme of the show is ‘Expressions of Integrity’. The show will present a series of exclusive collection garments co-created by master artisans and designers. The garments will be created drawing on a spectrum of traditional Indian textile techniques practised in different parts of Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal.

The Grand Finale of the show will celebrate the famed textile traditions of the fabled, historic city of Banaras. This superlative collection is being handcrafted in collaboration with six master weavers who practise different traditional weaving techniques of Banaras thus conveying the richness of the city’s heritage, the living skills of weavers and the importance of designer-artisans collaborations to create museum quality textiles.
