 Khon Kaen  (Thailand) 

Khon Kaen is the Centre of the Northeastern Silk industry with numerous villages producing their own Mud-mee designs. Chonnabot is noted for its quality silks. Annual Silk Festival is hosted by the City in December of each year, when all the best Mud-mee Silk are shown. People in the region are mainly agricultural, ·every household has·a farm and weaving is a major function of the women to weave cloth for use in daily life. 


Mud-mee (lkat) has always been well known Hand-woven Thai silk or cotton textiles from this area. It is popular because of its unique beauty and economic value, providing the secondary income to the locals which amounted to 127.32 million baht in 2015. Mud-mee silk from Khon Kaen has received more than 60 awards of UNESCO Craft Prize.

Mud-mee (lkat) is regarded as a "Queen of Thai Silk" because of its intricate patterns, a venerable textile traditional of the t\Jorth eastern region of Thailand which has different designs according to its Locality. Mud-mee (lkat) Silk from Khon Kaen province is a unique product of lsan people of Thailand. The process of producing Mud­mee (lkat) silk follows an ancient method, which has descended from generation to generation as "Village wisdom".

 

Mudmee Silk is produced from high quality silk yarns which are designed by tying the patterns by memory or with newly created designs and dye in several dyeing batches to the colours' shades as required. Mudmee Silk of Khon Kaen had been proven the most beautiful with unique patterns and weaving techniques which are quite different from other areas. The ancient patterns are considered a prototype of Khon Kaen Mudmee, 
 

Khon Kaen Silk Cluster of Mudmee Textiles entrepreneurs had been formed to develop the silk industry by integration andoperation networks in order to achieve the main goal in the promotion and development of Mudmee Silk Textiles towards thesustainable livelihood of the Isam people and to continue to future generations.
